Steps
Twitter offers two ways to retweet: manually and automatically. If you would like to add a personal comment with the other person's tweet, manual retweeting is the way to go. If you want to post a retweet that was originally (close to) 140 characters, you should use automatic retweet.Manual Retweet
- Start a new tweet with the prefix "RT" (abbreviation of retweet).
- Write "@" and the name of the account you're retweeting.
- Copy and paste the tweet you're want to share with your followers.
- Publish your tweet.
Automatic Retweet
Hover your cursor over the tweet you want to retweet. You should see a "Retweet" option show up in the lower left hand corner. Click on that.
When asked if you want to Retweet, select Yes.
The tweet will automatically show up on your account as a retweet. It will have an icon with two arrows at the beginning. You also have the option to Undo the retweet at the lower right hand corner.
Tips
- An alternative format for manual retweeting is to copy and paste the tweet and write "(via @____) at the end.
- Some third party programs (e.g. TweetDeck) have different retweeting methods and tools.
- Note that with Twitter's automatic retweeting, you can't edit the tweet, which is seen as limiting by some.
