facebook status - Add Blogger Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools

I hope you do know about Google Web Master Tools. This tool enables Webmasters to provide a better and detailed information of their site to Google. This will greatly help you in your SEO needs.Webmaster Tools allows you to submit your blog's sitemap so that Google gets a better idea of your blogs structure.
Blogger’s robots.txt file automatically specifies a sitemap URL[The blog feed], but it would be even better if you manually add the sitemap URLs to GWT.
Wordpress and other blogging platforms have some Sitemap generator plugins for the same.If you are using blogger you can use your blog's atom.xml feed as your sitemap.
Note:- If you have disabled Blog Feeds then enable it by going to Settings > Site Feed and change Allow Blog Feeds to Short or Full. (Don't set it to None)
1. Login to Google Web Master Tools with your Blogger account.
2. See if your Blog is already listed there, if it is listed and verified then click on the blog name and proceed to Step 5
3.If its not listed, Click on the Add a site button and provide your blog URL there and hit continue.
add-blogger-blog-to-webmaster-tools
4.It will now ask you to verify your Blog using any of the two methods. You can use any of those. The File upload method would be simpler.
  a. File Upload Method – Change the Verification method to Upload an HTML File. Ignore the file download and upload instructions provided there. Google will automatically download and upload that file for you. So just ignore the instructions and hit the Verify button. Your blog should get verified now. If it doesn’t then opt for the  second method (b)
  b. Meta Tag Verification method. Google will provide you a Meta Tag code which looks like
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="verificationkey" />
Copy this Code,  login to your Blogger Dashboard navigate to Layout >Edit HTML and place this code somewhere above </head> Save the template, come back to GWT and hit the verify button.
5. Once your blog is verified you can  add  sitemaps for your blog [From the Left Pane > Site Configuration> Sitemap].In the sitemap URL give the following URL as shown in this screenshot and click the Submit Sitemap button
atom.xml?redirect=false&max-results=500
 add-blogger-sitemap
If you have more than 500 posts on your blog, then add an additional sitemap URL
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=500
If your blog has more than 1000 posts, then add one more sitemap URL
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1001&max-results=500
If it has more than 1500 posts, then add one more sitemap
atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1501&max-results=500
Continue this process depending upon the number of posts on your blog. So this means that you will be adding additional sitemaps for every 500 posts.
Once you have added the Sitemap, you can play around with the different other tools in GWT. It will provide you with a better analysis your site, show you the sites linking to you, help you in managing your site links and much more.

facebook status - How @replies work on Twitter (and how they might)

I see a lot of confusion around how "at replies"—tweets that start with an @ and then a username—work on Twitter. E.g.:
@Veronica I vote they should be $2.00 each. Cut down on junk mail. Isn't that the only use of postal mail these days, anyway?
10:59 AM May 09, 2008 from web in reply to Veronica
Starting my update with "@veronica" designates that I'm addressing her, specifically, much as you would in a group conversation. Also like a group conversation, she's not the only one who can see what I'm saying. If I wanted to "whisper" something instead, I'd start my message with "d veronica"—what we call a "direct message." (A person must be following you in order for you to direct message them, but not to @reply them.)

As you may know, @replies were not originally part of Twitter. They were embraced by the community first, and then we built them into the system. First, we linked the username (when using the web interface), then we added a replies tab, so you could see replies to you from people you weren't following. We also added a setting to determine what @replies you see (more about that in a minute). And most recently, we added the "swoosh" to the web interface, so you could more easily reply. Other Twitter clients have also embraced @replies in cool ways.
Today, @replies are a critical part of how Twitter works. However, they're not perfect. In fact, some people are either loath to use them or annoyed by them (or both). I believe a big reason for this is that's it's not obvious exactly how they work. In fact, I talk to even advanced Twitter users on a regular basis whom I end up explaining what the @replies setting does and who see what replies.

@Replies To You
If someone @replies you—note, this means they start a tweet with @yourusername—you will see that in your main timeline if you follow the person. But you'll see it in your replies tab, whether you follow them or not (unless you've blocked them):

@Replies tab

In some desktop clients, like Twhirl, you can see @replies to you, along with all the updates from people follow, which is neat.

The Setting
There is an @ Replies setting you can find under Settings / Notices:

@Replies Setting

This has nothing to do with @replies directed to you. This is about what @replies you see from people you follow. The default—@ replies to the people I'm following—is probably what you have it set on (98% of people do). That means, if you're following me, but not following @veronica, you wouldn't see the tweet above (unless you went to my profile).

The beauty of this is that I can feel free to @reply Veronica without worrying about the fact that only a subset of my followers also follow Veronica, so they won't know what I'm talking about. My followers will only see my update if they follow both of us (if they have their setting on the default).

We're trying to avoid the situation of you hearing someone answer a question when you didn't hear the question (for instance). Also, you don't have to hear answers to the question from people you don't want to hear from. (If you're not following them, you won't see their answer.)

This is the main thing that people are confused about, I've found. There are good reasons for this. For one, it didn't use to work like this. (Since @replies were just normal tweets at one point, all your followers would see all of your, no matter who you were replying to.) Secondly, we don't explain it very well (thus, the need for this post). And third, some people do have their setting at "all @ replies"—so they see all the replies people they're following make, even if they're not following the person being replied to. Many people I've talked to have this setting on and don't realize what it actually does. (Usually, they just want to see @replies directed to them).

Conclusion
1) You should feel free to @reply people and not worry about it being out of context to some of your followers. In general, they won't see it.

2) If you're seeing @replies directed to people you don't follow and don't want to, check your setting.

3) This is obviously too confusing. We want to make some changes to make it more clear. We could clarify the setting. But my preference is to take out the setting altogether and just make it work like the default. That way, it works the same for everyone. (If you have strong opinions on this, leave a comment.)

Cool Tools
There are a lot of other ways we'd like to enhance this functionality. But for now, Quotably has worked around the opaqueness of conversations on Twitter and aggregates @replies in a useful way. Also, Summize let's you see all replies to someone.

Tracking You
Another question I get is how to get the equivalent of the Replies tab (@replies to you, especially from people you don't follow) over SMS. The work-around for this (for some people) is just to Track your name. E.g., I send 'track ev' and get a message every time someone mentions @ev. This is not ideal, because Track currently ignores the "@" symbol, so if you have username that is common, you'll get lots of irrelevant stuff. We plan to fix that. (Also, yes, we will get the replies tab on m.twitter.com. Soon.)

facebook status - What Is Twitter And How Does It Work – Beginners Guide

I think most of you know what Twitter is, after all I’ve been writing posts about various Twitter tools and tricks. But still I get emails and some questions in comments: “What is Twitter and how does it work?” Here’s quick beginners guide to Twitter so from now on, everyone knows what I am talking about. (Because there will be more posts about Twitter and Twitter tools in future).
Don’t be overwhelmed by Twitter. It’s easy, it’s fun and it’s free. But… What is it?
People all over are Twittering. WTF is Twitter anyway? Most heavy duty techies and electronic device users know this, but still, new to many people, is this quickly rising phenomenon called “twittering”, the verb that describes the use of the application called Twitter.
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that has changed the way many people communicate. Twitter allows users to send “updates” (or “tweets”: text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to Twitter website via short message service (e.g. on a cell phone), instant messaging, from their computer at home or work, or through a third-party application.
Some see this as a way to simply report their ’status’ to friends, some use it to post interesting links, some use it as a savvy marketing tool and still there are countless ways to utilize this real time quick messaging application.
It’s very easy to do. You just sign up (free registration), pick a user name (your site or profile web page will be ‘http://twitter.com/your name here’), and you can ‘design’ your Twitter home page by uploading an image or choosing web colors.

Then what?

Well, you can search for other twitterers by using the search box or browse other Twitter users and choose to ‘follow’ their tweets if you wish (that’s all what Twitter is about – following others and getting others to follow you). Let me be your first friend on Twitter – Follow me. You can make your tweets private or public and even send messages direct to other twitterers, as opposed to publicly posting yours.
That’s all! Pretty simple I know… That should clarify all your questions and dilemmas about how Twitter works.

Stay tuned – I will be writing more posts about Twitter, like how to use it to market your business or website, connect with like-minded people and many other creative uses of this cool service.

facebook status - How to Use Hashtags With Twitter

Hashtags are a tool that you can use in Twitter to track twits, tweets, and anything 'twitable'. According to a Twitter wiki, "Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. They're like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag."[1] They were developed as a means of creating groupings within Twitter.

Steps

1...In order to track hashtags more effectively, follow @hashtags. This allows them to be tracked more productively.
  • Hashtags is part of Hashtags.org.
  • They can also be tracked without following someone at Twemes.com.
2...Start using hashtags in your tweets, preceding key words. The hashtags should have meaning to you.
  • It can be helpful to do a little research first, to find out if the subject you're tweeting already has an established hashtag.
  • Also, check Suggestions and Tips and Example Uses below for etiquette and general usage.
3...Finally, track other tweets on the subjects you're interested in (ie: those containing the appropriate hashtags) by browsing/searching at Hashtags.org or TwitterGroups. You can set it up with RSS feeds as well.
4...Learn about the stats resulting from tagging. You can do this with:
  • Organize and display them through an RSS feed, making them available to everyone, including non-tweeters.
  • Use the developing Twitter search engine.
  • Tags have their own webpage through hashtags.org. For example #followfriday
5...Know that you don't have to hashtag everything. Hashtag etiquette is still evolving, so let good social manners be your guide. It is a rare "tweet" that deserves a hashtag, so tag only those updates that you feel will add significant value to the conversation. One hashtag is best — two are permissable — but three hashtags seem to be the absolute maximum, and risk raising the ire of the community. Tag sparingly, and with careful discretion.

facebook status - How to Retweet

Retweet
No, it isn't a cutesy way of saying "retreat". It's the Twitter equivalent of forwarding an e-mail, and a compliment to whoever you're retweeting. So next time you read an interesting Tweet, consider retweeting it as follows.

Steps

Twitter offers two ways to retweet: manually and automatically. If you would like to add a personal comment with the other person's tweet, manual retweeting is the way to go. If you want to post a retweet that was originally (close to) 140 characters, you should use automatic retweet.

Manual Retweet

  1.  Start a new tweet with the prefix "RT" (abbreviation of retweet).
  2. Write "@" and the name of the account you're retweeting.
  3. Copy and paste the tweet you're want to share with your followers.
  4. Publish your tweet.

Automatic Retweet

Hover your cursor over the tweet you want to retweet. You should see a "Retweet" option show up in the lower left hand corner. Click on that.
Highlighted tweet with reply and retweet options displayed

When asked if you want to Retweet, select Yes.
Retweet confirmation dialog
The tweet will automatically show up on your account as a retweet. It will have an icon with two arrows at the beginning. You also have the option to Undo the retweet at the lower right hand corner.
Retweeted post

Tips

  • An alternative format for manual retweeting is to copy and paste the tweet and write "(via @____) at the end.
  • Some third party programs (e.g. TweetDeck) have different retweeting methods and tools.
  • Note that with Twitter's automatic retweeting, you can't edit the tweet, which is seen as limiting by some.

facebook status - 3 Tips To Make Twitter The #1 Source of Traffic for Your Blog

Gaining Twitter followers is, in my experience, way easier than gaining RSS readers or, in general, regular and engaged readers. For this reason, making Twitter an important source of traffic for your blog is becoming more and more strategical for every blogger.

How to achieve that when you are starting from scratch? How to leverage Twitter in order to grow your audience?
Today, I would love to share with you three simple tips to make this happen as quick as possible.
Twitter Traffic Generation

1. Monitor Your Niche

First of all, you must try to figure out who your potential readers are. The best way to do this is to track all the tweets that contain blog posts from other blogs in your space.
On Twimbow you can easily do that with the “Monitor”. Create one monitor for each blog and simply track “www.[blogname].com”. This way, all the tweets containing the name of those blogs will appear. You can also configure each “monitor” to generate a visual notification and a sound (on Chrome only, but it’s worth it).
After that, it could be very interesting to insert all the users who are tweeting /retweeting those blog posts in a list or mark them with a colored label (eventually, follow them with the Twitter account of your blog or with your personal account). This way, you can easily identify them in your stream and engage them lately.
In the image below, I am tracking a few blogs about cars (for example). The green speaker icon in the central monitor means I will get a visual and audio notifications when new tweets are available (that is, someone tweeted an article from that blog).
Twimbow Monitor

2. Schedule Posts Of Your Articles To Twitter

In my experience, if you want to give your blog posts proper visibility on Twitter, you must post them on Twitter 2-3 times a day, at least 3 days / week. Of course, it is very important to find the right compromise, otherwise your followers could be annoyed by your multiple posts.
Moreover, if you target an international readership, you must make sure to properly cover the different time zones. Good times to post are 9am, 2pm and 2am (targeting another time-zone).
You can use Twimbow Slots to schedule your posts. You have a slot for each hour of the day, set to your timezone. Just calculate the right time zone and insert each post you want to promote at least two-three times during the day. You can also choose a few blog posts to test different times and see what is better for your blog.
You can short URLS with Bit.ly from within Twimbow or with any other service that lets you track the clicks. This step is very important, since measuring the conversion you get from this activity is crucial.
At this point, make sure to go back to (1) and track who is retweeting and sharing your stuff. It is essential for (3).

3. Engage, Engage, Engage

Last but not least, be active on Twitter. No, better, be VERY active on Twitter. You should engage all the people who are reading and sharing your posts (yes, all!), asking for feedback and, eventually, telling them about other related content from your blog that could be potentially interesting for them.
For example, if you blog about technology and wrote a post about the latest cool gadget, tell people (tweet people) who shared that post on Twitter that you (you did, right?) wrote another post and the previous version of that gadget or about the brand in another post.
Even better, add a comment to that tweet. It is very useful to make people aware you are expert in your field and this increases the probability they will follow you and bookmark your content. Nothing new here, people want to feel important, want to have the perception that behind that blog there is someone who cares of them and use Twitter actively to engage readers and be helpful. I firmly believe this is very important for a blog as well as for any customer care who actively work with social media.
Ok, are you ready to start making Twitter the #1 source of traffic for your blog? It is incredible how some bloggers still underestimate the power of Twitter despite it is a wonderful way to make people know about your blog and create and manage a faithful readership. What do you think? Please drop me a tweet, happy to discuss.

facebook status - How to Use Twitter

Different social media have different uses, strengths, and advantages. Twitter could be called a 'real time social networking' site, a place for sharing information as it happens and for connecting with others in real time, often making lasting friendships and contacts.
Learning how to use this fun, free, and useful tool can be a bit intimidating for the beginner, but don't be put off – with a little effort and a lot of innate feeling your way through, being able to use Twitter well can make you 'digitally' famous!

Steps

Go to Twitter.com[2] and sign up for a free account. Do so by entering your name, email address, and desired password in the provided space.

Go to Twitter.

Tweeting and Getting Followers

1...Learn the Twitter lingo and use it appropriately.[3]
  • Retweet or "RT" - taking a tweet from one user and posting it yourself, automatically crediting the source, so that all of your followers can see the tweet. The original Retweeting style would take a tweet and re-post it via your own account in the following format: 'RT @(username of person who originally tweeted the tweet you're retweeting): (contents of tweet)'. The current system does away with this format, and instead directly re-posts the tweet, crediting the origin underneath. For example, 'retweeted from @username'.
  • Tweet - a Twitter single update of 140 characters or less, which include @Mentions to other users, hashtags, external links, or simply regular text.
  • TweetUps - Using Twitter to meet with other Twitter folks.
  • Trending Topics (TTs) - Trending Topics are a range of subjects which many users across Twitter are talking about simultaneously. Initially, Trending Topics would include the matters of interest people across Twitter had been talking about throughout the entire week, but the refined algorithms made it easier to keep up to date with the latest most-talked-about subject, by only displaying Trending Topics related to things thousands of people across the whole of Twitter are discussing at any one time. Clicking on a Trending Topic in the list will bring up a range of tweets mentioning the matter of interest, and for each Trending Topics, there will be up to three 'Top Tweets'. These are tweets which are relevant to the Trending Topic, that have been Retweeted more than 150 times. You can view a list of Trends in your area in the right column of the home page.
  • Lists - Users can organize the people they follow into 'Lists' of businesses or personalities which are related in some way. For example, a user could list all of the NPOs and charities they follow into a single List, for easy reference.
  • Promoted Tweets - A single Trending Topic which a company or organization can pay to 'trend', as to gain attention and traffic from Twitter users worldwide.
2...Tweet. If you want to let your followers know what you are doing, type it in the 'What's happening' text box and then click on the 'Tweet' button. Note that tweets are limited to 140 characters or less; otherwise, the "Tweet" button will go into a minus.
  • As you type, a countdown is offered to help you keep track of the character count of your tweets. The allowed characters are in gray, then the last 10 go red, and then a red minus symbol appears when you are past the zero (0) indicator.

As you type, a countdown is offered to help you keep track of the character count of your tweets.
As you type, a countdown is offered to help you keep track of the character count of your tweets.

3...Use hashtags. Prefacing a word with a '#' will create a hashtag. A hashtag makes a certain word easily searchable. For more info on hashtags see the wikiHow article on How to use Hashtags with Twitter.

Some Trending Topics will include hashtags, thus making it easier for users to tap into a Twitter-wide conversation regarding a single matter of interest.

  • Some Trending Topics will include hashtags, thus making it easier for users to tap into a Twitter-wide conversation regarding a single matter of interest.
  • A prime example of the usage of hashtags can be seen with Major League Baseball, which uses team-name hashtags (#Mets, for example) to pull together lists of in-game tweets, which they display on their website.
4...Gather Followers. Your twitter can be as intimate or as big as you choose. If your goal is to gather lots of followers, though, be sure to keep your posts interesting and relevant. You shouldn't underestimate the power of following others, either—often times if you follow someone they'll follow you back. Finally, give your favorite followers shout outs occasionally. This could be through direct tweets, blogs, or a simple #FF (#FollowFriday) mechanism. This is where you tweet a short list of your key followers who you think would be good for others to follow and include the hashtag #FF, they are generally sent out at the end of the week hence the name. This will often be reciprocated, meaning your name gets circulated, however, #FollowFridays are going out of fashion and many commentators question their worth due to their spam like nature. A simple RT (re-tweet) can be a very effective way of attracting followers. Re-tweets are a real time affirmation of someone else's statement and is often rewarded with a follow.

5...Check the replies from your followers that are directed at you. Click '@Mentions' to see if there are any replies to any of your 'tweets'. When tweeting, using '@' followed by a username (with no spaces) in your tweet will send a mention to the user you choose. For example, '@username' will send a mention to 'username', and the entire tweet will show up in his '@mentions' section.

The arrow shows where to click to find these

6...Decide your own style and times for tweeting. Twitter, like many social media applications, can become addicting and time-sucking. Make a decision early on about how much time you will devote to it and about how big your "tribe" of followers will be. Avoid worrying about getting heaps of followers; that's competitive rather than relating and it will end up wearing you out. Instead, focus on quality connections and information-sharing and don't get too upset when someone unfollows you; it happens and you can't change it. If you feel Twitter is overwhelming at any time, simply take a break from it and come back later, refreshed.
  • Anthropological and sociological studies have claimed time and again that we can only cope with being part of a tribe of 150 to 200 people.Anything more than that and we get confused and lose the intimacy of connection. Keep that in mind when aiming for too many follows!

Finding and Organizing People You Follow

1...Figure out who to follow. You will probably find that you know quite a few people on Twitter. Using the menu tab on your page click on 'Who to Follow', and there are several ways to find people on Twitter, as follows: Use the 'Find Friends' link to find people you know through your various Gmail, AOL, MSN, Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts.

  • Use the 'View suggestions' link for a wide range of possibilities that may, or may not, connect with your interests. (Twitter is also working on personalizing lists of suggested followers, so keep an eye out for the feature.)

  • Use the 'Browse Interests' tab to find people by interest.

2...Look for people from organizations that you are in or for those that share a common interest. There are many business, companies, celebrities, and non-profit organizations on Twitter, ranging from Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) to Greenpeace (@greenpeace).

3...Create lists. If you're following lots of people, it can get hard to sift through all the tweets. For easy reference, you can organize the people you follow into a list. To add someone to a list, go to their profile. Then, click the person icon in the toolbar and select "Add to List." A menu with your lists will pop up; you can choose to create a new list or add the person to an existing one.

Setting Up Your Profile

1...Upload a profile picture. This picture will be displayed with your name across the site. It must be a JPG, GIF, or PNG file and must be smaller than 700k. To do so, click on "settings" in the drop down menu below your username. Then click on "Choose File" to select a file from your computer.

2...Add your name, location, and website. Under your profile picture, you have the change to enter your full name. Adding a full name allows you to keep a professional aspect regardless of your username. You can also a location to let people know where you're tweeting from and link to your homepage or blog if you desire.
3...Work on your pithy 'bio'. Make it eye-catching and interesting. Do it just right and it will help you build up followers; people thinking of following you do read the bios to see if they have reason to follow you. Bear in mind that a bio can be up to 160 characters long, so you'll have to keep it short and to the point. Don't worry about typing your real name or website URL here—those can both be entered separately (as shown in the previous step).
Example of a clear and quick bio
Example of a clear and quick bio
4...Decide whether you want your tweets to be posted to Facebook. This can give you more view per tweet. If you so desire, click the "Posts your Tweets to Facebook" button at the bottom of the profile page.

5...Edit your language and time zone. Under the "Account" tab of settings, you have the ability change the language and time zone that your Twitter is in. Do so by selecting the desired language and time zone from the drop down menus. You can also change your username and email address here if you ever need to.

6...Check the box below time zone to add a location to each of your Tweets. This is different than the location on your profile—it is specific to each Tweet and can be as general as a town or as specific as your exact location. Even when this feature is enabled, you have the option to turn it on or off with each individual tweet.
7...Review the Tweet Media and Privacy settings. These are listed under the Account tab of your settings. Check the applicable boxes and hit save.

8...Change your password periodically. Protect your account by periodically changing your password. To do so, click on the "Password" tab under Settings. Enter your old password, then your new one twice. Hit "Change" when finished.

9...Decide when you want to receive emails from Twitter. Under the "Notifications" tab, there is a list of actions. Check the boxes next to those actions for which you'd like to receive an email.

10...Customize your profile. Every profile begins with the default background and color scheme. However, you can personalize it if you wish. Click on the "Design" tab of Settings. You can choose from one of the background images provided, or upload your own by clicking on the button that says "Change Background Image." Then, click on "Choose File" to upload one from your computer. You can also play with the color scheme by clicking "Change Design Colors."

Other Features

Send DMs. DMs are Direct Messages. They go straight to the intended person that you are messaging. The DM feature utilizes an inbox and outbox system, but you are still limited to using 140 characters; you are also limited to sending DMs to only those users who follow you. DMs cannot be seen by anyone other than yourself and the chosen recipient, and are thus more personal. To send a DM, go to the page of the follower you're sending one to, and click on the "Message" box.

  • Be aware that some people really dislike DMs on Twitter because they reason that Twitter is an open conversation and a fast one, not a disguise for sending each other private messages. Also, DMs are not appreciated when they involve marketing or advertising.
2...Use third-party applications for ease of mobility and account sharing. Third-party applications such as TweetDeck and Twhirl (desktop), Twitter for iPhone (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad), or Twidroid (Android) can help you to manage your Twitter account(s) better. If you have lots of followers and if you follow lots of people, at which point it can be difficult to keep up with everything on Twitter's official website, you might want to try something a bit more advanced like Hoot Suite or Blossome.

Tips

  • Try to use just one tweet to get your point across. If it carries on to another tweet it should be shortened.
  • URL shorteners are sites you'll learn to love as a Tweeter: it shortens your long URLs into things that will easily fit into the 140 character limit.
  • If you're looking for big follower totals, find a niche for your Twitter account. Tweet about politics, or hockey, or fashion, whatever interests you.
  • Look on websites you frequent for Twitter accounts; this can help you populate your Twitterverse with people whose opinions and insights interest you the most.
  • If privacy is a concern, Twitter offers an option to make your tweets only visible to followers whom you have previously approved of (this can be changed in Settings > Account > Tweet Privacy).
  • You can download Twitter onto smart phones.

Warnings

  • As with any social network, be wary of the information you share with others.
  • Particularly excessive tweeting (100+ tweets in an hour or 1000+ tweets in a day) can send you temporarily to "Twitter jail" for a couple of hours. While in the proverbial "jail", you can access your profile but cannot tweet.
  • As with Facebook, wikiHow, Wikipedia etc. you will have to be over 13 to join.

facebook status - Get more traffic from Twitter with these 6 great headline tips

So, you have all those followers on Twitter and yet when you tweet a link to your latest blog post…..nothing much happens!
Why did so few of those hundreds (or thousands) of your followers click your link; after all, it’s a great post?

Your headline let you down!

People will ONLY click your links and read your content, if the headline or title is compelling enough.  If just a small percentage of your followers are clicking on your links, it’s because the headline isn’t selling that link to your followers.  It’s not compelling them enough, to make them want to click through to your site and find out more.  Unless they do that, they will never know how great your posts are, which is why headlines are easily the most important element of your content.
Your headlines or titles are what open the door to your content.  To succeed, your content has to be effective too, but nothing happens until people actually READ what you have written and your headline is what either encourages them to read the first line of your material – Or not.  Get the headline wrong and you make it very hard for your content to get noticed.

6 headline secrets behind yesterday’s post

To show you what I mean, I will use the example of yesterday’s post, which was extremely successful.  It’s title was: Build a great client list with this 1 simple idea.  Here are six of the secrets behind it.
The headline didn’t try and do everything.  There was enough information in that headline to explain what the post was about and get the reader curious.  To discover what the “1 simple idea” is, the reader has to click through.  The more curious you can make someone, the more likely they are to take action; in this case click a link.
The headline was relevant to my readers. It was a marketing related headline and my friends on social networks connect with me because they are interested in marketing.
The headline made a compelling promise.  Every headline makes a promise to the reader.  The promise of that headline, is that if they click that link, I will give them some valuable information, which will help them with a huge problem; attracting better clients.  The post content delivers on the promise, which is essential if you want people to come back!  A great headline, which points to a post that fails to deliver on the headline’s promise, will cause people to feel cheated and stop them trusting your headlines and links in future.
The headline let people know it was easy. Part of the headline’s promise, is that they will learn this valuable information, quickly and easily.  It’s just 1 simple idea.  This requires little time investment from the reader, with the potential to learn some valuable business information.
The headline didn’t keyword stuff. Some people seem to believe that the only way to attract search engine traffic, is to stuff their headlines with keywords.  This is flawed for 2 reasons.
  1. You can SEO your posts, by making the version of the title which people see, different from the version which search engines see.  If you use WordPress, there are plugins that allow you to do this.  If, like me, you use the Headway WordPress Theme, (affiliate link) you don’t need to mess around with plugins, it’s there out of the box (along with a ton of other great SEO features!)
  2. Your content, including titles, should be written for people, NOT search engines.  If you try and write posts that appeal to search engines rather than people, even if someone does find your site on Google or Bing etc, it will read poorly and therefore fail to convert them into subscribers, clients or customers.
The headline wasn’t clever. Some people write clever headlines, which lack any compelling reason for a busy person to click their link.  They are often abstract or cryptic, rather than interest grabbing and inspiring.

Headlines are important so give them the time they deserve

There are very few things in life, which come with a guarantee, however, I can guarantee that if you make your blog post titles more compelling, you will definitely get more traffic from social networks and feedreaders.
Invest as much time as is required, to get your headlines as attractive as possible and just watch the increase in your blogging results.

facebook status - Build a great client list with this 1 simple idea!

Some people just don’t get it.
You know the people I mean, right?
  • They know there’s a heatwave coming days in advance, yet they wait until it arrives before they shop for a fan.  They then find empty shelves, as they go from shop to shop in the blazing sun.
  • They know the best theatre seats always sell first, yet they book their theatre tickets late and end up with the worst seats.
  • They know garden centres are packed solid on a spring weekend, but they refuse to visit them midweek.  End result, they waste an hour or more doing what they could have done in 10 minutes after work, midweek.  They also miss the healthiest plants and the best deals, as these are always sold first.

When my mentor, Jim Rohn, started out, he told himself;
I will get everyone in this room to understand my message, even if it kills me.
He then confessed;
I had to stop.  I almost died!
No matter what line of business you are in, you have to learn to live with the fact that a subset of people will never “get it.”  In my experience, you are better off leaving those guys to your competitors.  I know what you are thinking; it’s OK for Connolly saying that, but I can’t afford to be so choosy!
Wrong! You can’t afford to waste your time and resources, trying to sell to people who are not interested.  It’s the lowest leverage form of marketing and the most expensive way to acquire clients.  It’s the total opposite of targeted marketing, where we deliberately look for the right profile of client.
Target your marketing toward people who have the need, resources and intelligence to work with you.  If you are reading this, I know you are an intelligent business owner, who understands the value of marketing – otherwise you wouldn’t be here!  That’s because my marketing is targeted, so that I only get inquiries from people like you - The kind of people I love to work with and who “get it!”  If you want to know how I target my marketing so effectively.
To get the best results, your marketing needs to focus your resources on the right section of the marketplace, based on your ideal client profile.  Small business owners just don’t have the time to waste, chasing the wrong people.

facebook status - How to Submit Site Map to Ask.com's Search Index?

A Search Engine Watch Forums thread asks how does one get their site indexed by Ask.com.
Typically, a search engine likes to pick up new URLs and pages via a normal web crawl. You can see at Ask.com's Webmasters page (a page that has grown to add more information over time) that Ask.com's crawlers go around the web from link to link, looking for new and important content.
Ask utilizes Web crawlers to collect raw data and gather information that is used in building our ever-expanding search index. Crawling ensures that the information in our results is as up-to-date and relevant as it can possibly be. Our crawlers are well designed and professionally operated, providing an invaluable service that is in accordance with search industry standards.
But in the past, you were able to do paid inclusion, that is no longer available. But as Ask.com says, they do want to find new pages during the normal crawl process.
As a result of some recent enhancements to Ask, we're confident that we're indexing even more Web pages than ever, and that your site should appear in our Search index as a result of our ongoing "crawling" of the Web for new and updated sites and content.
Also in the past you were able to submit your pages to url@askjeeves.co.uk or url@askjeeves.com to get included. An old 2003 thread from WebmasterWorld claimed that it worked in the past. Does it still work? I hope to find out and update this thread, but I highly doubt it.
Currently, the best way to get included is via nice topical and popular links. Then just be very very patient.

facebook status - Why You Shouldn’t Integrate Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn

Twitter, FacebookSocial networking is a huge part of the Internet, providing the means for us all to connect and communicate quickly and easily. There are both positive and negative aspects to the very act of social networking, but most of us take part in the activity on at least a part-time basis. Most of us doing so on more than one site.
This complexity of connectivity makes it very tempting to combine the various social networks we use. The mindset being that by integrating them all, one update posts to all of my family, friends, colleagues, and followers. It’s a nice idea in principle, but in practice it’s a potential road to ruin that could result in, at the very least, a severe case of foot-in-mouth disease.

Different Networks For Different Groups

To understand why integrating these three social networks isn’t such a good idea it’s crucial to first understand the differences between them. There is obviously a certain amount of crossover between the three, in terms of userbase, connections, and appropriate updates, but generally speaking Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn exist in their own bubbles with their own separate rules of engagement.

Facebook

Twitter, Facebook
Facebook is the biggest of all the social networking sites, with somewhere between 900 million and 1 billion user accounts. Not all of these are active, of course, but it’s an impressive total nonetheless. Facebook is about as mainstream as you can get now, with the userbase veering upwards in age as the number of older people joining makes up for the younger generation moving onto pastures new. Such as Twitter.
Facebook requires you to use your real name when joining, making it a place for real people without the comfort of anonymity afforded by other social networks. Facebook is extensively used as a resource for real family and friends to keep in touch. So much so that people I know online have rejected my Facebook friend requests because I don’t know them in the “real” offline world.

Twitter

Twitter, Facebook
Twitter is big and growing ever bigger. It went from a niche service to a mainstream behemoth in the span of a few months at the start of 2009. This was when traditional forms of media starting dropping the name into conversation and using the service as a news source. Twitter now boasts 500 million active users, who between them push hundreds of millions of tweets out every single day.
Twitter doesn’t require you to be your real self. It’s an optional extra whether you have your account verified or not. Twitter is therefore something of a Wild West in the world of social networks. There is no mutual friending either. You follow who you’re interested in, and people will only follow you if you’re interesting to them. This means you’re communicating with mostly strangers most of the time.

LinkedIn

Linked
LinkedIn is a social network with a focus on the networking rather than the social. It’s aimed more at a niche set of users than either Facebook or Twitter, if you consider the act of networking in a professional context a niche activity. The smallest of the three, LinkedIn boasts at least 150 million users at the time of writing.
LinkedIn has brought to the online world the idea of business cards and introductions that have prevailed in the offline world for many years. LinkedIn is your professional presence on the Web to show to potential clients or partners. And through its network you can make new contacts that may share mutual friends. This is much more about building professional relationships than fostering personal ones.

Sending The Wrong Message

Twitter, Facebook
Now that we’ve established the very real differences between these three social networks, it should be obvious to all reading this why integrating your accounts on all of them is not necessarily such a good idea. Writing an update or posting a link/picture/video to one and having it send to all three is a potential disaster waiting to happen.
On Twitter you may want to gain followers by posting a tweet intentionally designed to get a reaction. While random people will love the snark, the less tech-savvy family members may take it seriously, and business contacts may balk at the controversial nature of it.
On Facebook you may have some personal news that needs sharing with your nearest and dearest. While friends and family will be keen to hear the news, Twitter people won’t care and LinkedIn people may resent what they’ll undoubtedly consider spam and/or utter gibberish.
On LinkedIn you may have some important work-related gem to share with like-minded contacts. While those in your direct field of employment will express interest, it will likely go over the heads of all those on Facebook and Twitter. And rightly so too.

Conclusions

To sum up in as simple a way as possible: not all social networks are interchangeable, so integration isn’t always the best policy. We all have those off-days where our mouths (or in this case, fingers) engage quicker than our brains, and on those occasions it’s far too easy to send a message that won’t go down well with your contacts on at least one of these sites. Think of this as a public service announcement.
